Mulgoa Project

This project, located in an expansive, combined living, dining, kitchen and family room space, was designed to complement and work in with the owner’s collection of furnishings and artworks. Housing multiple integrated appliances including a drawer style fridge and a down draft air extractor in the island, the joinery had to fit under existing concrete benchtops salvaged from an earlier interpretation of the kitchen that failed to meet expectations. The client’s confidence in Dan Kitchens’ ability to successfully take over the project and to grasp and interpret the technical challenges and aesthetic values was repaid in full with the resulting workmanship and attention to detail making the earlier attempt a thing of the past.
The unusual but harmonious blend of surface finishes used throughout the kitchen and the walk-in pantry include a pitted copper surface sitting directly opposite satin polyurethane in a very deep, almost black colour; subway tiles and pressed metal wall linings; natural timber and concrete just to mention a few. For a personal touch, the client’s own handmade, recycled timber palings were used to line the island bar back and tall cabinets in the laundry. Truly a one of a kind, this eclectic yet very practical project has proven to be a source of ongoing pleasure and satisfaction for it’s very proud owners.
Mulgoa Kitchen Overall

A kitchen, pantry and laundry were designed and built by Dan Kitchens Australia in this project.

Concrete island

Joinery was built under pre-existing benchtops.

Large pantry space with desk

The large pantry space included an informal desk area.

Dark satin polyurethane doors

Open shelves, a French door refrigerator and tall cabinet doors provide ample storage space – keeping the rest of the kitchen tidy.

A very eclectic kitchen

The kitchen is a reflection of the owner’s desire to collect interesting objects – pitted copper panels, black painted doors, embossed splashback and recycled timber bar backing to name a few of the materials.

Fridge and freezer drawers from Scholtes

Integrated fridge and freezer drawers by Scholtés were designed to fit in the island behind copper panels.

Pop up cooktop extractor

Down-draft rangehood installed in the concrete island. Steam and cooking gases are extracted through the floor.

Lustrous charcoal door fronts

Dark satin door fronts, the colour of charcoal, have a beautiful lustre.

Bowser style tap with undermount sink

Mulgoa Kitchen 010

The colours and materials may be eclectic, but they work together harmoniously.
